| Berwick & District Nursery School was established in 1971 based on the belief that the first five years of life are the most significant in terms of learning and development. A quality play environment will be established by providing a cooperative approach between families and teachers to see that the needs of the children are met. |

| Opening Learning Centres | ||
| This time cam be used by the children to begin their art/craft activity or to use the Centres (listening, computer, home-making, dress-up, gross motor, blocks and building, library, science as well as small motor, water play, puppetry, painting or math manipulative) or to participate in planned or unplanned activities. | ||
| Morning/Afternoon Circle | ||
| Discussion of themes as well as any of the following: related stories, finger plays, experiments, games exercise, drama and or presentation of Special Guests. | ||
| 10:00/2:00 | Snack Times | |
| The child who provides snack for the class will serve during this time. | ||
Children's Choice |
||
| During this time the children have the opportunity to choose arts & crafts, open leaning centres, and library and participate in planned and unplanned activities. | ||
| Second Circle | ||
| Short group time including any of the following: songs, stories, finger plays, games and or sharing time. | ||
| 11:15/3:15 | Table Top Time | |
| During this time children can choose a puzzle, toy or book from certain areas to play with at the table. They may also choose a library book to take home at this time. | ||
| Snacks and Cleaning | ||
| Snacks are scheduled on a monthly basis and posted in the main entrance. Parents take turns providing snacks for the class. Food allergies are taken into consideration when making menus. | ||
| Please note: Parent must check the calendar for their child's name and note the day that you will be providing snack. The class list will be rotated so that everyone has equal turns thought the school year. Parents who do not provide snack on their assigned day will be billed for the cost of the food. | ||
| Cleaning: Depending on enrolment, parents may be required to clean the Nursery School on a rotational basis as well. Parents will be notified of a change in this policy on a yearly basis. | ||
| Note: Snacks and Cleaning do not count towards volunteer hours. | ||
| Clothing & Personal Items | ||
| It is difficult for teachers to identify each child's belongings. Please ensure that personal items are identified with the child's name. Please be sure your child comes daily with the following: | ||
| 1. Full change of clothing. | ||
| 2. Rubber-soled shoes, sneaker or slippers (Velcro fastening or slip-ons preferred) to be left at school for indoor wear only. Outdoor footwear will not be permitted inside the playrooms for sanitation reasons. | ||
| 3. Comfort toys/blankets can be brought in if needed. Each child as a cubby that it can be left in. We ask that children leave other toys at home. | ||
| 4. Parents are reminded to send children dressed for play. When children are playing outdoors, painting, etc, they are bound to get their clothing dirty. Therefore, we ask that parents send their child in play clothes only! | ||
| Field Trips | ||
| We will be scheduling field trips during time that there are no classes. Everyone is responsible for their own transportation. Outings will be outlined on monthly newsletter and all are welcomed to join us for the fun. | ||
